ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia's major investment and business community actors on Tuesday hailed the strong Ethiopia-China business ties and commended the growing Chinese investment in Ethiopia's priority sectors.

They made the remarks during the Ethiopia-China Symposium, which was held on Tuesday in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, aiming to boost trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Ethiopian Investment Commission Deputy Commissioner, Anteneh Alemu, opening the high-level symposium, affirmed the east African country's keen interest in attracting more Chinese companies to the country's investment landscape.

"Ethiopia wanted more and more Chinese companies to invest in the country's priority sectors and, in this regard, the government of Ethiopia is ready to make any necessary support to interested Chinese companies," Alemu said.

The symposium was co-organized by the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA), Ethiopian Investment Commission, and China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products.

ECCSA Deputy Secretary General, Wube Mengistu, also said that as the trade and investment ties between the two countries were augmented over the years, an increasing number of Chinese companies have been also flocking to invest in various important areas, including investments in the infrastructure and energy sectors.

Mengistu, who noted Ethiopia's fast and sustainable economic growth as well as the ample investment opportunities that are available in the country, also said that Ethiopia currently benefits from the exports of coffee, oil seeds and leather products to China.

More than 12 Chinese companies and over 26 Ethiopian business firms were in attendance at the trade and investment symposium that also aims to create strong partnerships among the two countries' business communities, according to the Ethiopian Investment Commission.
